TCN To Partner With Edo Ministries To Eradicate Encroachment Of Right Of Way

...Warns The Public To Desist From TCN Facilities, Calls For Police, NSCDC Supports

In a bid to advert and prevent unsudden death in various TCN pipelines across the country, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has visited the Ministry of Roads and Bridges and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability to sensitized the officials of the ministries on the dangers of erecting or building structures on the TCN lines right of way.





Speaking to both officials of the ministries, the General Manager, Health, Satety and Environment of the TCN in Abuja, Kangeh Anengeh Cephas, said the purpose of the Committee visit is to come and sensitized them about the dangers ahead of people who encroached on the TCN lines right of way.

Kangeh Anengeh Cephas, who is also the National Chairman of the  Committee on the eradication and elimination of the encroachment of TCN right of way said, their visit to the police command is to partner with them on the area of security and enforcement.


He explained," The TCN committee on a nation eradication and elimination right of way because of the encroachment of TCN right of way. Today, I have been informed by some persons who violate the law, because of this concern that the  TCN have for the encroachment of our right of way.

" For the purpose of time and records, we have our infrastructures 330 KVA and 132 KVA. So you will see these talk iron towers facilities. TCN is  Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). Our men function across the country is to get a bulk purchase from generation companies and transmit it, and give it to distribution companies to sell to customers.

" So the light you have here is transmitted on a very high voltages down to the distribution companies, who step them down to feeding. So we have 330 KVA network. The 330 KVA network the corridor is 25 meters at side and another 25 meters lines of the 50 meters on the other side from the centre lines.

" So from the centre lines you have 25 meters both side when nobody is suppose to build, to do business, and do any commerical activities there. For the 132 KVA network, the right of way is 15 meters in both side for the centre line of the 30 meters.

" These lines have been there over the years, and people believed the free lands did not belong to anybody. As a result that people are now building structures and doing business under these lines.

" The dangers in these lines note that not only it has not given us access for maintenance, but the dangers in these lines are also cancerious in the human body. If these lines fall on any structures or any person. The person or structures will burn to ashes."



Responding, the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Arch. Joshua Omokhodion, represented by the Director of Flood and Erosion , Engr. George Iguabor and the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, represented by the Director, Design and Consultancy, Engr. Sylvester commended the TCN management for the visit and pledged to work with them.

The duo said the TCN should be the driven force in the implemebtation of the process and urged management of the Committee to carry them along when they start the next stage of the excerise.

They also thanked TCN and restated their commitment to pass the message to their bosses. They pledged to join the campaign and sensitization awareness of the enforcement because of the dangers it poses to human lives.


Also, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, has pledged to partner with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to curb encroachment on electricity transmission lines.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Efosa Ogbebor, Spokesman of the command, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Efosa said that Mr Samuel Dan, State Commandant of the corps made the pledge when received on courtesy visit, Mr Cephas Kangeh, General Manager, Health Safety Environment (HSE), TCN Headquarters, Abuja.

Dan explained that the corps was saddled with three major mandates, which included 24-hour surveillance on infrastructure and government assets among others.

He explained that the security approach of the corps was that of preventing crimes and all that would affect lives and property.
